Stairlift buyers guide
When buying a stairlift there is no need to panic, as it can often seem or even be made to seem more complicated than it actually is.
There are many different makes and models of stairlift but actually only two main styles:
Straight stairlifts:
Perfect for staircases with no bends. There should be a set price for a straight lift plus any options that may be required.
Curved stairlifts:
Designed for staircases that go around corners, these will usually be a little more expensive than a straight stair lift as the tracks are often manufactured to suit your staircase.
All staircases & applications are slightly different in one way or another. This being said, be prepared for a home visit so that measurements and a brief assessment of you and your staircase can be carried out to provide an exact quote.
The shape and size of your staircase will determine the final price. Although, as a guide you could always compare a standard straight stairlift price from one dealer to another without a home visit…
Please Beware!
Unfortunately, some companies will use the home measure as a sales tactic and pressure you into a sale, so be sure to check that the assessment is a no obligation one.
All of our local assessments are 100% no obligation, FREE of charge, & completely pressure free (the only thing he might ask for is a cup of tea)
Both new and used stairlifts will be fitted quickly and efficiently by qualified manufacture trained installers, with no mess or fuss. We guarantee that you will receive only the highest quality of service & we are able to offer nationwide assessments and installations all within a couple of days.
Frequently asked Questions & Answers:
Q; How long does it take from measure to fitting a stairlift?
A; Certainly within 7 days, often quicker if required
Q; How Long does a stairlift take to fit?
A; Expect only 1-2 hours for a straight stairlift installation and around 3-4 hours for a curved stairlift installation
Q: What is a stairlift hinge?
A; A hinge is used if the bottom of the staircase is a walkway between two rooms. It allows the rail to be moved out of the way so that it doesn’t obstruct the passageway. A hinge is usually available in both powered & manual variants.
Q; Why would I need a powered swivel on a stairlift seat?
A; A stairlift seat will always swivel at the top of the stairs in order to block the staircase off behind you when getting on or off. This is usually done by lifting a small lever at the side of the chair & walking yourself around with your feet. If this would be a struggle, some brands offer powered swivel options that will swivel at the top of the stairs automatically
Q; Why would I need a powered footboard on my stairlift?
A; When a stairlift is not in use it can usually be folded flat against the wall to allow people to pass. The seat & arm rests lift up as does the footrest. If you struggle to bend, some stairlift brands offer a powered footboard option, so it raises & lowers at the touch of a button
